INV – Edinburgh Gathering_15 – Renewed Friendships

30/03/15 – AH  Lanark CC enjoyed another well-organised International Gathering at Murrayfield from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th March.

Team 1 – ie Anne Hood AH, Jack Hood JH, Dot Moran DR and David Sidney DS played on Friday and Saturday and were fortunate to play 3 European teams out of their 4 games.  We played Sweden, Switzerland, Norway and Balfron Wolves.

Team 2 – ie Anne Hood, Frank Caddell FC, Moray MD and Kathleen Deane KD played on Sunday. We played 2 Scottish teams ie Corriefisters and Merchiston.

Moray and Kathleen reported that the ceilidh on Saturday evening was as enjoyable as ever which followed the champagne reception and 3-course dinner (with wine).

Dot Moran made lovely graphic leaflets about our club and we distributed these, together with Dot’s homemade shortbread, to the foreign clubs hoping that we will receive an invite to their ice rink.  The Swedish players instantly gave us a competition bonspiel in October – anybody wish a trip to Sweden in 2015?  We await to see if we get other responses from the clubs.

Ken Hunter, who chairs the organising committee, stated that more foreign clubs wish to take part in this weekend but he has to hold a balance between Scottish and International Teams and the weekend is fully subscribed – what a nice problem to have!

This is a lovely way to end a curling season so next year it shall take place during the first weekend in April and Lanark will be invited.
