LCC – Glaister_17 @ 1955hrs + Information Sessions Now Finished For 2016 – more info here

20/11/16 – IC >E<  Hi all,

Just a wee reminder that there will be no rules/tactics/”anything else” session this week – just in case you were planning to turn up. It is planned to continue with these in 2017.

See you on Tuesday for the last Glaister match

Iain

09/11/16 – JH – As highlighted below Bill (BJ) presented his thoughts on Curling Tactics last night. Will there be a possible follow-on? Thanks Bill

28/10/16 – AH – A big THANK YOU must go to Martin (MY) who has led us through 3 Information Sessions, to date, on curling rules. We have all learnt something new – we have also had a laugh – and, we do love controversial discussions (all in a nice atmosphere, it has to be said).

We now go to Tactics. This is not only for Skips – all members of the team should be aware of game tactics (it’s all part of the learning process). How often have you heard somebody say “I don’t understand what the skip is asking me to do?” – unfortunately, that can sometimes lead to a poor stone being delivered. As an up-and-coming skip then this is the time to learn. As a new curler you will benefit from a better understanding of the game. Bill Jackson (BJ) has kindly agreed to lead the next Information Session – 7.20pm in the Coach Room – prior to next Glaister game ie 8th November.

We’ve enjoyed a reasonable turn out to date – let’s continue with this support.

Many thanks

Anne ?

06/10/16 – AH – The Committee are trying to organise a short (ie 20 mins) Information Session prior to a Glaister game to keep members up-to-date with certain aspects of our beloved game.

Next Tuesday evening, at 6.20pm, in the Coaches Room (adjacent to cafe), Martin Yuill will present a ‘Curling Rule’ Information Session. Now, before you declare “This is not for me”? just think of the following:

  • Have you noticed situations where Seconds and Leads are in the Head alongside Skip and Third?
  • Where do sweepers stand just prior to delivery of stone?
  • Have you ever walked diagonally across the ice when stone is in play?
  • Are you familiar with all the hand signals that Skips give?
  • Can I take my delivery again if I stumble?
  • Are you ready to delivery your stone when Skip is looking for it?
  • Is skip ready to give instructions when you’re ready to deliver your stone?

I have posed just a few questions to prove the point that bad habits develop amongst the best of us – this Information Session is not just for new curlers.

It is an animated wee session – not a formal coaching session – and if members find this useful then another 2 sessions are planned ie Etiquette and Tactics.

It’s up to you – we need your support. See you at 7.20pm next Tuesday………

Rgds
