LCC – Pairs_17(FC) – Final – Anne & Donald Our New Pairs Champions

Pairs_17 – Finalists – DM, AM, HC, AK

03/12/16 – FC – Thursday night saw the PAIRS Final [ 7 Ends Playing 4 Stones Each – phew!]  played out between Donald (DM) + Anne (AM) and Alistair (AK) + Hugh (HC) . A few members of the Club came along to give support including Brian Stephenson (BS) whose knee unfortunately is still giving him ‘gip’ – though he is controlling the pain with medication.

Now there were some thoughts that Donald had invited Brian along to put his old ‘mucha’ HC off but it didn’t seem to work with Hugh and Alistair playing well and keeping the previous champions to a close game and then the wheels came off the wagon in the 6th.

So this was how it panned out: AK – Yl Yellow, DM – Rd Red

  1. DM last stone. Draw in. Catches Yl on 12′ but still lies shot – DM+1 – DM1/AK0
  2. DM lying shot. AK K/O and stick for 2. Gets too little of shot stone angles out of house – AK+1 – DM1/AK1
  3. DM final stone. AK lying 3 across front of house and counting. No draw in. DM uses Yl on 12′ to come off of into 4′  (super shot a DM special) – Dm+1 – DM2/AK1
  4. DM lying 2. 1 x 12’&8′, 1 x 12′. AK to draw to 4′. Draw finishes on 4’&8′ – AK+1 – DM2/AK2
  5. Head fairly cluttered with Rd & Yl stones. DM tries draw – stays wide – shot – though only partially covered. AK to try and wick to side. Tricky shot. Shot stays wide but just does enough to move Rd shot stone. – AK+1 – DM2/AK3
  6. After 12 shots 3 Rd’s on 4′ and guarded (though there is a potential hole to come through) . AK to try to get through hole if not it should move guard. Removes guard. DM tries to replace guard. Draw stays wide. Now open for AK to draw again to guddle and cut DM down. Heavy!! DM draws to guddle for a 4 – DM+4 – DM6/AK3
  7. DM (keep head clean?) looks like he wants to wants to steal. AK tries to steal some shots as well (only option). Hard. AK losing his draw weight. DM steals a 3. Wow! – DM+3 – DM9/AK3

Final result DM & AM 9 /AK & HC 3

Well done to all the players on a initially tight and entertaining game. And of course congratulations to Anne & Donald as our new Pairs Champions for 2016/17.

17/11/16 – JH – Tonight saw Donald (DM) + Anne (AM) and Alistair (AK) + Hugh (HC – Jack (JH) subbing)  win through to this year’s PAIRS final on the Thursday 1st December. If you could manage along on the night your support would be greatly appreciated.
