UWL – Galloway Trophy_17 – Lanark In Final – Go For It Lanark!!!!
04/03/17 – AH
On 2nd March, Lanark CC faced Douglas CC in the final of the GALLOWAY KNOCKOUT (where you can checkout Standings and Draw) competition which is run by the Upperward of Curling Association.
Lanark 1 1 1 0 0 3 3 = 9
Douglas 0 0 0 1 3 0 0 = 4 – Shook hands after 7th
Lanark’s team was Bob Thomson (skip), Bill Jackson, Tom Steele, Ian Reid and the team played absolutely brilliantly over the first few ends where, quite literally, they all played the stones where the skip wished them to be. Douglas were under immediate pressure. Such good play earned a score of 1 to Lanark for the first 2 ends. At end 3, Lanark were in command again and lay 5 shots when Ian Fleming (Douglas’s skip) played his final stone. It was a great stone and was just centimetres away from taking shot – however, Lanark was reduced to 1 shot in the third end. As can be seen in curling, the game suddenly turned. The Douglas team became more settled and took 1 shot at end 4 but then scored a massive 3 shots in end 5 – game on! However, undaunted, Lanark kept their cool and scored 3 in end 6. In end 7 Lanark lay another 3 shots so hands were shook at this point giving the victory to Lanark. Well done Lanark!
It seems an irony that the advantage of winning this cup is that the above Lanark team is now barred from the competition for the next 5 years. Congratulations boys……….

Only me….again!
Well the reason for this note is just to let you all know that Lanark are in the final of the Galloway Trophy where they will play Douglas, the game is at 5:45pm on Thursday which is preceding the Fanackapan games if my reading is correct, so anyone turning up a wee bit early should be able to catch at least part of the Galloway Trophy Final
Cheers
Iain 🙂
