Bob Mackintosh – Lanark Rink – Runners Up!
05/03/17 – FC
Today, Sunday 5th March, the above bonspiel was held at the LIR. Lanark CC was represented by Bill Jackson (Skip) (BT) Frank Caddell (FC), Bill Tennant (BN) and Gordon Fraser (GF). Scoring is based on the Schenkel system in which ends won is the main criterion followed by shots up.
Played over 3 games of 6 ends, not bad relaxation for a Sunday! Well, we drew our first game 3 ends each in which part of the opposition was Jack and Anne Hood. We went on to draw our next game 3 ends each and in the 3rd game we got off to a good start by winning 3 ends on the trot. However, the opposition won the 4th and 5th ends so we were anxious to not lose the last end which might just have given us a chance of not finishing too far down the table? I’m delighted to say that we did and so ended up with a total of 10 ends.
Fair enough, we thought, surely we won’t get the wooden spoon, and we didn’t. Much to our delight we had fared well, because we were runners-up and went off home with a nice bottle of wine each!
I should add that I tried to pinch the Bob MacKintosh trophy before we started because it was sitting at the end of the bar and I thought that Lockhart had left it out there for me to collect from Thursday evening when the boys WON THE GALLOWAY CUP. Of course, had I read it I would have realized I was taking away the wrong trophy. Ah well, you can only try!!! (Edit: A bit of difference Frank 😉 – but which do you think is the nicer?)
So, almost another trophy for Lanark CC.
Frank
Well done lads a great effort. And for the record my own rink came in with 9 ends – having been ‘hammered’ by Luke Carson’s Rink (this year’s overall winners as last year – HERE https://www.lanarkcurlingclub.org/2016/03/11/bobmac_16-swiss-tour_14-getogether/ ) in the middle game. But you’ve got to hand it to Luke and his young team they certainly are champions in the making along with their fine sportsmanship.
