An Important Message From Scottish Curling

Dear Members

We hope that this message reaches you in good health, at the end of this curtailed season.  We understand that all curling rinks have now closed for the season and recommend that you follow the information that they provide to users regarding the opening dates for the start of the new season after the summer.

Scottish Curling issued a statement on our website on Monday 16 March confirming steps that we were taking as a result of the unfolding Coronavirus situation.  Following the further government interventions, we have now cancelled all of our remaining competitions for the 2019-2020 season and only virtual/online courses are proceeding as planned.  All participants have been notified and entry fees will be refunded accordingly.

Entries for the next season competitions will be available on our website from the start of May and we hope that some normality will have resumed by the start of the new season.  We urge members to enter as they normally would, to enable planning for future events and you can be assured that any events that we cancel will be fully refunded.

The Summer Youth Camp that is planned to proceed on the 27-31 July is currently under review. We are also in weekly discussions with the accommodation provider, transport company and ice rink on their status. We will keep the participants informed as the future situation becomes clearer.

The remaining competitions that are cancelled are:
29 March – Newcomers (Braehead)
29 March – Virtual Club Challenge (Dundee)
10-12 April – Junior Mixed Doubles (Dumfries)
22-24 May – Scottish Curling Mixed Championship (Stirling)

The following courses will be cancelled:
23 March – Stick Delivery (Dundee)
7 April – Child Wellbeing and Protection (Ayr) – now being run virtually/online

The following courses will proceed, by being delivered virtually (online):
24 March – Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport
7 April – Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport (formerly at Ayr Ice Rink)

The Ladies Branch Annual General Meeting has been postponed from Tuesday 7 May and a date will be confirmed once there can be greater certainty.  The Annual General Meeting of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club is currently scheduled to take place in Forfar on Saturday 27 June and we will continue to monitor the viability of this going ahead on that date however it seems increasingly likely that it will be postponed, as soon as any decision is made on this we will notify members.

Scottish Curling’s business will continue to operate as normally as we can.  Some meetings have been cancelled and others will be held via telephone/video conferencing facilities.  Our staff will principally be working from home, with limited personnel in the office to open and process mail and do any tasks that require the office facilities and this may be with reduced hours and not necessarily every day.  We apologise if there is any delay in processing correspondence, however we will endeavour to deal with everything that we receive, as quickly as we are able.  We will share updates via our website and social media channels as much as possible.  Contact details for our staff can be found on the Contact Us page on our website here https://www.scottishcurling.org/about-us/get-in-touch/staff/

Our board and staff hope to see all of our members and volunteers back next season, healthy and eager to get curling!

Yours sincerely,

Bruce Crawford
