Guidance For Continuing Curling After 27th December
Dear Member,
Following discussions with SportScotland and SIRA, we are pleased to confirm that curling can continue during the three-week period of restrictions announced by the Scottish Government, that start two days after Christmas.
Sport plays a key role in the physical and mental health of people of all ages and abilities, and we are happy we can continue to enjoy curling, albeit with a couple of small changes.
From the 27th of December, you may notice some changes in the ice rinks, and the bar areas as they adapt to new hospitality guidance. On ice, we are advising players to observe physical distancing, meaning just one player sweeping at a time to give the sweeper space.
You can view the full guidance HERE .
We’ve also made the decision to postpone 3 events due to take place over the next three weeks:
· Asham U17 Slam – Forfar, 28th – 29th December
· Junior Club Challenge – Dumfries, 8th – 9th January
· Asham U14 Slam – Stranraer, 15th January
We feel it isn’t advisable for us to encourage so many curlers from different areas to come together, so we’re working with the ice rinks to confirm new dates for these.
Although we’re relieved we can still curl, we must recognise this is a tough time for our ice rinks. We all know how important the social side of the game is and previous hospitality restrictions have unfortunately but necessarily curtailed that side of the sport. If you don’t fancy staying for a drink after the game, why not buy a coffee or a soft drink to enjoy on the way home and help support your ice rink through this period?
We want to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year and look forward to seeing you on the ice soon.
Best Wishes,
The Scottish Curling Team
