WEB – So What’s New?
Hi all,
And welcome to the new Season 16/17. We hope you had a good rest over the summer and that the weather gods were good to you 🙂
If you’ve had a chance to check the Club’s Website from time-to-time you may have noticed that we had been on our ‘Holidays’ – sort of. Though things had actually been happening in the background for the forthcoming Season. So what’s New?
EVENTS CALENDAR
Well; as you may appreciate the Club activities are very much governed by the various competitions internal and external. And of course overseeing this is our EVENTS CALENDAR . This year we have slightly ‘titivated’ the layout making it somewhat sharper on your browser along with making the CATEGORIES, PRINT & LIST area easier to negotiate. Also within the CATEGORY Section, the existing YELLOW one has been split into two – with YELLOW – now covering INTERNAL competitions only, such as the Glaister, Fanackapan etc, and the new Category – RED covering EXTERNAL such as – Invitations, Inter-Club Matches etc. The overall reason for this split is in the creation of a compiled list of all the forthcoming Competitions for the Season – the COMPILED CALENDAR (as known at the start of the Season – in this case the 12th September). It is in a much more structured format, delineated by Category and supercedes the Representative Matches Listing that we used to include in our Fixtures Booklet.
BOOKLET – Season 2016/17
At the AGM a number of members asked if a Booklet of key information could be produced – as last Season. This has now been done and is available on the MEMBERS ONLY Page – Scroll down to MEMBERSHIP BOOKLETS and select 2017/16. As last year it is in .pdf format and can be stored on your mobile, laptop etc for reference using Adobe Reader or indeed your browsers PDF reading capability – or indeed just print out. Within is the COMPILED CALENDAR – though the listing as shown WILL get out of Sync with the EVENTS CALENDAR. It is just a guide to the Club’s future commitments so please keep referring to the CALENDAR for the latest updates and changes. Thanks!
I-CAL & RSS Feeds
Some of you maybe aware of how to use the I-CAL and the RSS Feed – EVENTS CALENDAR facility? (they are located at the bottom of the CALENDAR alongside the CATEGORIES section) However if not here is a brief rundown.
I-CAL is basically a common format that allows you to download then upload into an existing Calendar such as Outlook Calendar, Google Calendar etc. You can interleave with your existing Calendar or create a new specific Calendar just for Curling – very handy. However to keep your your Calendar up todate you will have to download and update a number of times throughout the season (more on this below in Google Calendar).
The RSS Feed allows those of you that use such Readers the ability to be updated automatically as changes are made to the EVENTS CALENDAR. Again a handy facility but has certain downfalls if you are not a latest News geek!
GOOGLE CALENDAR
For those that don’t wish to go to the bother of installing a RSS Reader with a certain amount of ‘news overload’ that that entails, we have been investigating the use of Goggle Calendar as a ‘hub’ for syncing the EVENTS CALENDAR. What we are talking about here is it doesn’t matter what device you use, if you have a Google Account – via the Google Calendar facility you can sync and existing or new calendar. This should be automatic without your intervention. It is still under development and when up and running a POST will be created.
NEXT EVENT
On the HOME Page a slight change has been made this year to the NEXT GAME alerts. Updates were previously done done manually which was a bit of a pain, so this has now been updated and is now done automatically. However it is set to show ONLY the NEXT up and coming event. So to have a fuller idea what’s-a-happening again please checkout the CALENDAR or if you are within some of the sub-pages these will list up to FIVE EVENTS on the side border.
So that’ll do for now. There are other developments in pipe-line, but one area we would like to have running this year is the GALLARY. So hopefully we will have some spare time to work on the this.
Have a great and safe season.
